Description of Research Group:The Multimedia Communications Laboratory keeps pace with international standardization strategies and development needs, focusing on research in multimedia communications and intelligent information acquisition and processing. The team has published over two hundred papers in flagship journals and international conferences in the multimedia field, and authored several important books in this area, including Next-Generation Versatile Video Coding H.266/VVC: Principles, Standards, and Implementation, which provides key reference materials for multimedia coding work in China. At the same time, representing Xidian University, the team has participated in the formulation of multiple multimedia-related standards led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) of ISO/IEC, and China's Audio Video Coding Standard (AVS) Working Group. Among these, the families of standards the team helped develop includes H.266/VVC video coding, AVS3 video coding, MPEG-I 3D graphics coding, AVS spatio-temporal graphics coding, and ITU-T P.1201 multimedia quality assessment. All those standards are among the most authoritative and widely used multimedia coding and evaluation standards worldwide. Cumulatively, the team has submitted more than 300 proposals to international and domestic standards, with more than half adopted; the group has filed or been granted over 300 patent families in China, the United States, Europe, and other regions.
Dr. Anthony TRIOUX received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic and Communication Engineering from the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF), UMR CNRS 8520, in 2015 and 2020, respectively. He was an Assistant Professor at Centrale Lille from 2019 to 2020, and a tenured Associate Professor at UPHF/INSA Hauts-de-France from 2020 to 2022. Since January 2023, Anthony is an Associate Professor with the School of Telecommunications Engineering at Xidian University.
His research focuses on multimedia communications, including but not limited to:
3D media compression and transmission (including avatar coding),
Low-bitrate Generative Face Video Coding (GFVC),
Quality Assessment,
Error resilience and reliable transmission in video communications,
Ultra-low-latency video coding and transmission for UAV and V2X scenarios.
In terms of research output, he has published over 30 papers in leading international journals and conferences and has been invited multiple times to deliver tutorial and keynote talks at major venues such as IEEE ICME, ICECS, EUSIPCO, and VCIP. In 2024, as project leader, he was awarded the Xi’an International Science and Technology Cooperation Base on “Key Technologies and Applications of Visual Media Communications.” He was also funded as a foreign expert under the State Foreign Expert Individual Program (Category Y).
Anthony is an expert within ISO/IEC, a member of the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET), and actively contributes to international standards for video and 3D media coding, having submitted more than 40 proposals over the last two years.
He serves as an Associate Editor for the EURASIP Signal Processing: Image Communication and Springer Journal on Image and Video Processing, and as a TPC member for major conferences including IEEE ICME, ICASSP, QoMEX, WCNC, etc. He is also a reviewer for leading journals such as IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (TIP), IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT), and IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics (TCE), as well as for conferences including IEEE ICASSP, ICME, VCIP, etc.
In terms of international collaboration, he has built extensive partnerships with renowned universities and scholars, and has undertaken visiting scholar exchanges at institutions including CentraleSupélec, École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS Montreal), Tampere University, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Linköping University, etc. co-supervising graduate students.
